What is an IBG?
An Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) is an insurance policy that is offered or given by an installer to a customer/homeowner to offer protection to cover the installer’s own guarantee, so that in the event that the installer should cease to trade or enters into liquidation, any incomplete/unsatisfactory work can be completed or rectified within the guarantee period. An IBG also provides for Deposit Indemnity, so your deposit would also be covered within the guarantee. It also provides further protection to homeowners of up to 10 years cover for the full contract value of the installation, for repairs or replacement. IBGs offer different levels of protection and exclusions or limits depending upon the policy.
The home improvement market is particularly unpredictable with a high percentage of companies ceasing to trade within the first two to three years of trading. Most of them offer their own written guarantees, and these are traditionally for 10 years. An IBG is the most effective way of protecting the installer’s written guarantee by covering it with a insurance policy. You can get cover for a maximum of 10 years, so the consumer has more peace of mind that they are covered for the full duration of their guarantee.
The requirements set out by the CLG (Communities and Local Government) state that an installer must do one of the following to comply with the requirements for self certification under Approved Document L:
Option 1
Offer the customer the option to insure their own installation after the installation has been completed.
Option 2
Give the customer a Insurance Backed Guarantee. We feel it is important for our customers to have the peace of mind all the way through their project, and also through to their guarantee. This is why we always include GGF insurance cover with every job we install.
We guarantee our products and then we bolster that guarantee by insuring it using the Glass and Glazing Federation insurance scheme. Just in case Eliments should ever cease trading, you can feel confident that you will be covered if you need support within your guarantee.
We feel you really need to be covered by a good IBG provider to support your guarantee, because there are a lot of cheap insurance companies out there who offer IBGs, and you won’t know how good they are until you need them. This is why we choose only the best.
